In order to change the OnlineHost's name for AOL 2.5 you will first need to download a hex editor, such as UltraEdit-32 or HxD.

  1. Close AOL 2.5, if it is open.
  2. Open UltraEdit-32 via Start | Programs | UltraEdit | UltraEdit-32 Text Editor.
  3. Navigate to your AOL 2.5/tool directory and open chat.aol. An example of the path you might use is C:/AOL25/Tool/Chat.aol
  4. Hit Search | Replace. Where it says "Find What" type OnlineHost. Where it says "Replace With" type what you want the new OnlineHost's name to be. Note:The new name must be 10 characters in length and must be letters, numbers, or spaces. If the new name you want is Bob you need to include 7 spaces after "Bob" in order to make the new name 10 characters.
  5. After doing that, click File | Save.
  6. Open AOL2.5 and check if the new name has taken effect. If the chat room does not load properly you will need to go into your AOL25/Tool directory and delete chat.aol. Then rename Chat.aol.bak into Chat.aol.
